The Raffles Hall Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) is a student body that represents the interests of the residents, and act as facilitators between NUS authority figures and the residents of Raffles Hall. Every year, the JCRC President and Vice President Elects will find people to join their team, who will then campaign for the votes of the residents. Only with the support from residents, then is the entire JCRC elected, and a new chapter of RH begins.

OUR VISION

To be the hall of choice by providing a world-class university experience, creating a home away from home

OUR MISSION

To provide support to residents and create a vibrant living environment, so as to develop holistic learning and a meaningful university experience

The 52nd JCRC

Benjamin Seow Chen Yee

Year 4, Business

Joining major hall activities such RH drama productions and orientation since his freshmen year, Benjamin has earned the respect and trust of his peers. Specializing in marketing in NUS Business School, he often pushes the boundaries and seeks to find new methods and ideas to achieve better results. Often asked the reason as to why he would run for presidency even in his final year, his response is, "It's the last fun thing to do before you enter the sad working life". Humorous (he hopes) and sometimes comical (though mostly unintentional), Benjamin aims to bring RH to a different level.

Calvin Tan Eng Aun

Year 3, Chemical Engineering

Calvin's first debut was during RH drama production Rendezvous, after which he took up many leadership positions such as RHOC Chairperson and RH Drama Productions Producer. Always seen with a smile on his face and ever so friendly, it is no wonder he is a friend to many in hall. Fun fact to note: Calvin claims he can sing, even though he was apparently rated as "tone deaf" by the choral director during his drama auditions. He has appealed numerous times for a chance to showcase his vocals since then, much to our culture director's dismay.

Chia Pei Lyn

Year 3, Chemical Engineering

Yes, this is the Pei Lyn; the person who has been sending all those hall notifications (if you are a resident, and you never received a single email from her, you should be very worried). With a sweet smile and her demure demeanor, Pei Lyn seems almost too nice for a honorary general secretary. But if you think you can step on her toes, think again. Being part of RH float and joining in many RH events and activities, Pei Lyn has proven herself to be one who is motivated, fun, and firm when the situation calls for it. And yes she is also sweet, did we not mention it already?

Cassandra Chua Yan Yee

Year 3, Pharmacy

Cassandra is not only known among the residents (especially for her contributions in RH Float) but she is also well known among the RH Alumni, being part of RH Alumni Committee for previous years. Having set her sights on being RH Finance Director, she works hard to prove her capabilities and obtaining the trust of the residents. It is no doubt her drive and sharp mind makes her the best candidate for this position. She handles all (your) money matters and authorizes your welfare fund. In a way, she is the most powerful in the JCRC. After all, money is power, isn't it?

Aaron Ng Yang Yuan

Year 2, Geography

Aaron first made his debut during the JCRC Presidency Elect Forum. He was not running for JCRC candidacy then, but his constructive questions and suggestions during the forum made everyone (including the President and Vice President) think, "This guy should be in JCRC". So a few weeks later, Aaron is the Freshmen Orientation Projects (FOP) Director. Heading all orientation committees is no easy feat, which consists of RHOC (RH Orientation Comm), RHEC (RH Exposure Camp), RH Float, RH Drama Productions (or also known as Concert) and DnD (Dinner and Dance). Trivia: Aaron has a stash of "jokes", if you are up for the challenge. Not for the faint hearted.

Kenneth Leung Tin Yau

Year 2, Pharmacy

Kenneth is of Sports Director material just at first glance. That look of confidence, determination and that strong passion for sports convinces you that this position is made for him and nobody else. Initially doubtful of his own capabilities when first approached, Kenneth soon agreed to step up (with much persuasion), and has since developed into a leader and proved his commitment and abilities. Despite his stoic appearance, Kenneth can be pretty different when you get to know him better. We will let his friends elaborate. Or just check out his FaceBook wall.

Samantha Ong Yi Hui

Year 2, Engineering Science

Samantha, aka Semie, is our Vice Sports Director, managing the female teams while Kenneth manages the male teams. A familiar face in RHOC (RH Orientation Camp), Samantha first occurred to us as the shy and quiet girl in hall. We were wrong. Samantha is anything but that. From sports to fun and games, Samantha has her foot in it all. In fact, she is one of the most sociable girls in hall, you wonder where she finds all the energy to do everything. Fun fact: she insists she is the cutest girl in hall. We dare not object.

Tan Ee Hiang

Year 4, Arts and Social Science (Eng Literature)

Ee Hiang is a person whom you can never find fault with. Everyone who knows her will say she is the most friendly and sporting and understanding person you can ever meet. One of the rare undergraduates who study the forgotten lore of English Literature, her idea of "light reading" is Shakespeare (If you ask us, "light" and "reading" can never coexist in the same sentence). Luckily for us, her talents in many instruments and her academic field of study made her the perfect candidate for the position of Culture Director. Fun fact: because of her flair in the English language, we always let her vet our reports before submissions. She is a bit... lackluster in the Mandarin field, though.

Siaw Kian Zhong

Year 2, Engineering Science

When the previous academic year ended, RH was in trouble - there was not a single soul qualified enough to be a Media Director. Then Kian Zhong walked into the interview room for hall admissions, and you could see the tears of happiness forming on Ben's and Calvin's faces. Drama aside, Kian Zhong had qualifications that left Rafflesians jaw dropped - programming, website, flash, just to quote a few. The first impression of Kian Zhong is one who is shy, but do not be deceived. When you get to know him better, he is that boy that is so talkative and quirky, he sometimes leaves you both laughing and crying at the same time. By the way, almost everything you see on this site is done single-handedly by him. Told you he is a genius.

Oh Sing Kiat

Year 3, Chemical Engineeing

Sing Kiat is smart. Not like any average-smart-person smart. He is smart. Analytical and logical, Sing Kiat is able to look at any situation, analyze it, and propose recommendations so succinctly and concisely that you wonder... is he a CAP 5.0? But we are digressing. Sing Kiat is the Welfare Director, who manages all welfare matters from facilities to food to entertainment. The better food menu? The launch of the new TV lounge? The foosball tables and the gym and the renovation works? Yes, all of it is his doing.

Looi Yik Zheng

Year 3, Mechanical Engineeing

More commonly known by his surname, Looi is a driven individual who has taken active interest and participation in hall activities. It has taken some persuasion to convince Looi to be the Social Director, but finally his passion and spirit for hall made him step up to this position. Being the Chairperson of Dinner and Dance 2009, Looi would be the best person to undertake the position of Social Director, which handles the management and organization of block and hall festivities and events. Want to hold a block supper? Or a New Year bbq event? Looi would be the person to look for.

Law Wei Seng

Year 4, Mechanical Engineeing

Wei Seng is an all-rounded person - playing sports like takraw and volleyball to managing committees such as RH Drama Productions Marketing. So it was difficult to place Wei Seng in a particular position when he applied for JCRC. Being active in hall activities made him a familiar face among residents and alumni alike; that was when we realized External Liaison Director was the role for him. Wei Seng handles all alumni affairs, as well as establishing a good working relationship with our sister hall, NTU Hall 11. Besides which, Wei Seng also supervises the Phoenix Publication, which reports on all hall affairs and events. Last but definitely not least, Wei Seng can dance. Don't believe? Approach any final year.
