Freshmen Orientation Projects

RH freshmen orientation projects (FOP) are a series of projects that are organized to welcome and orientate our freshmen to our vibrant hall life. In everything that Rafflesians do, we are aware of the rich history that has brought us to this point, to this particular place. We build on the past to create the future. We are old and we are new - everything we do instantly becomes part of the unique experience that is Raffles Hall. Hence our FOP are organized based on such a vision and belief - that new blood will replace the old, and in so doing, bring Raffles Hall to a new level.

RH Exposure (RHEX): Raffles Experience Extreme

Newly introduced in 2011, RHEX is Raffles Hall's exposure camp, held before our official orientation camp. This camp serves as a preview to those who want a taste of hall life in Raffles before they officially choose their hall preference. The title of the camp spells it all – we bring the Raffles experience to an extreme level of fun and excitement. More often than not, from those enthusiastic freshmen that join this camp, we see the birth of future batches of hall leaders.

RH Orientation Committee (RHOC) - The Raffles Experience

Rafflesians have always placed great emphasis on the Orientation. Traditions and history are passed down during orientation. Raffles Experience has never fail to outdo itself every year, attracting back alumni and seniors alike to join in the welcoming of the next generation of Rafflesians. Done well, it provides a valuable shared experience that becomes a starting point in the friendships formed here. Rumours have it that the orientation groups are also the seeds of budding romantic relationships...

Seen those floats that move around in Chingay? Well, we do them too. And to top it off, we have (better) dancers and music. Yes, as you might have learnt, NUS has its annual Rag Day at the start of every academic year, an event to raise funds for several beneficiaries. Raffles Hall, together with the other 5 halls, builds a float from scratch every year and trains a team of dancers to perform during Rag Day.

Dinner and Dance

Chairperson: Niu Bingyan

Contact: A0091904@nus.edu.sg

Every year, a Dinner and Dance is organized after Orientation and Rag Day to thank the freshmen as well as all FOP organizing committees for their hard work and dedication during the vacation. More importantly, it serves as a good reason to allow residents to enjoy and drink their hearts out before they return back to the routine life of schoolwork and meeting deadlines. Traditionally, Dinner and Dance also features an item from the final years, as a thank you gesture to RH for being a part of their university life.

RH Drama Production/ Concert

Producers: Tioh Chin Wei Dixon (dixontioh@nus.edu.sg), Lim Shi Kang (A0074835@nus.edu.sg), Yang Quan (A0087029@nus.edu.sg)

RH Drama Production is the last project in the series of FOP, and is also one of the main highlight events of the year. More commonly known as Concert, RH has always set the benchmark for the other halls by being the first hall to produce a musical in each academic year that features its own original script, original music and original choreography. Even the sets and costumes are designed and built by our very own Rafflesians. RH Concert delivers every year with impressive ticket sales, as alumni and residents flock back to witness this spectacular event of RH.
